THE JADE BRACELET BY MARIA FRANCES CHONG

The Possible Ending


Siew May wanted the jade bracelet badly. She cannot accept the fact that the jade will not fall on her hand but his uncle.(sue) Then she begged her mother for the jade,there was  a short conflict between them..(elot) She tried to snatch the jade from his uncle but his uncle grip was so firm that she cannot pulled it from her uncle's hand. (sue) The pulling of the jade bracelet continues for  several minutes,while Mrs Wong could not barely stop them because she was so sad,that is when the most unexpected  incident happen.Ah Kow accidentally let go of the bracelet without realising that Siew May still hanging on to the bracelet.(elot) Suddenly she was thrown away for a distance from her uncle. Then her head bumped to the wall. her head was bleeding seriously. Mrs Wong was really shocked and rushed to her daughter immediately. Unfortunately, she was not moving and breathing anymore. She has gone forever. That place turned sorrow because there were two deaths occurred at the same place and the gap was really close. Ah Kow was speechless and he felt guilty that he ran away from that place,at the same time Mrs Wong cry loudly until her voice reached the outside of the place........all because of the jade bracelet.....THE END.




THEMES


Loyalty of a child towards their parents


- It is shown clearly in the short stories by Mrs Wong's character as she is always by her  sick-mother's side. Even though her husband is away, she never complained of doing every job alone.


Irresponsibility


- Mr Wong did not carry his responsible as a husband of Mrs Wong as he was away from home just because his irrational allergy towards death and funerals cause him to be absent during the funeral.
